Re: Thornly Park approved school

... I didn't have any one in the 60's that went there, however if my research is right( not sure at this stage if it is) It might be possible that Thornly Park was once Paisley Industrial School... Hello, It seems that Thornly Park School was the Paisley Industrial School, and moved to premises the...

Re: GWYNNE family

Hello again, I've just realised that you said that you were also looking for the marriage details of James Gwynne and Janet Wilkie Grant. They were married on 25th Oct 1877 at Greengairs in the parish of New Monkland. They were married by the Revd. Alexander L. Houstoun, the Minister of the Free Chu...

Re: GWYNNE family

Going back to your other question in your first post - seeking the death info for James Gwynne and Janet Gwynne (Ms. Carter). In the other post, Brian gives 1915 for the death of James Gwynne. On ScotlandsPeople, that should be the one that shows as age 58 in New Monkland. Janet Gwynne, other name ...

Re: Alexander Forrester Farquharson birth

Hello Susan, Alexander's sister Mary was my 3 x great grandmother and I haven't been able to find a birth entry for either of them, or their siblings. As Sarah says, there may be a gap in the records. One of the interesting things I did find was an obituary for their mother, Isabella Cairns, in the ...

Re: Christmas Crime in Edinburgh.

Hello Alan,

I've had a couple of dodgy sultana cakes in Edinburgh with the consistency of a house brick, fair play to Mr Robertson for being able to break one, accidentally or otherwise.. :D

I also wonder what the definition of 'driving furiously' was?!

Best wishes

Re: Thomas Stark, born c1835 - can't find a birth record

Hi Karen Good to hear from you, I changed email addresses a while ago. I have been dipping in and out of family history but happy to reconnect and share any information that I might have that would be useful to you. The paternity action that I mentioned in my last post here was interesting and I've ...

It's brilliant when this happens - a bit of lateral thinking and another mystery solved! =D>

Re: Thomas Stark, born c1835 - can't find a birth record

Hi, I know that this is an old thread, but I am quite excited! I have just found an index entry for a Sheriff Court Paternity Case at Edinburgh Sheriff Court in 1835 lodged by Margaret Aitken, Servant to James McLean (Innkeeper) at Nine Mile Burn against Thomas Stark, Farm Servant of Brunstane. I ha...

Re: Occupation S.C.F

Hi, I just came across this tonight - haven't been on the site for a while. Looking at the 1841 Gorbals Census on Ancestry, there are loads of people with just 'Cotton Factory' given as their occupation and others as e.g Winder Cotton Factory", "Card Sharper Cotton Factory" and so on. These haven't ...
