Re: Thornly Park approved school

No relatives incarcerated there, but sadly my family had the misfortune to be burgled twice by inmates and a third time the police came out to sit with my mother as escapees had said they were on the way to burgle us again one day.

My parents did a dance when it burned down!!

Re: Missing birth and death record

That's interesting, I haven't seen any English BMDs that are free to view? Please can I ask what site they are free on as I can only find indexes :(

Re: National Assistance Act Funerals

Just had a look at that list, and, in a way, feel as if it is quite inappropriate and the information given must surely be against GDPR (I know that that is not regulated for deceased persons but this information may make connections with living people in the deceased's family?)? After all, you can'...

Re: Archibald Whyte

Aw Troutface so sad that I've just found this thread now having found out that I am related by marriage to Sir Harry Lauder and actually blood related to Margaret (known as Greta) Horne Lauder, Elizabeth Lauder Fraser and Margaret Lauder Fraser. Do you still happen to have copies of the documents? S...

Re: Mysterious death

Was there an RCE attached to the death entry? I would thought that it would have given more information about the death circumstances

Can I ask how you think that the two names are one in the same person?

Re: DIVORCE RECORDS

What actual records are you looking for? If the couple married in Scotland and divorced in Scotland, the original marriage entry will have a stamp or annotation at the margin indicating that there is a Divorce and, on Scotland's People, there will be an RCE attached detailing when the Divorce was gr...

Re: Alias surnames

Are these possibly "T names"? I think that these were more prevalent in the East and more to the North of Scotland which the Black Isle is? A kind of nickname given to branches of a family as they all had the same surname but each branch had a different "T name" to distinguish which branch an indivi...

Re: Virtual Scottish Genealogy Workshop

Just a wee note, and not meaning to offend, but I wish those from outwith Scotland would stop saying that we have Probate in Scotland as it is not Probate and it seems odd that people offering to help with research would use this term. Scotland issues Confirmations of an Estate from the Commissary O...
