Re: What software to choose

Alan, Thank you for all that info, I did not realise there were quite so many, after checking Wikipedia! I really do need the simplest option, Ancestral Quest is a new one to me so I will go back and check it, as it seems quite basic and might be a good choice for me. Wilma, I have the same problem,...

What software to choose

Hi everyone, After quite a few years away from this I have now decided to restart and get all my notes and documents into one place, but which software? I liked the look of Roots Magic but don't know anyone who has used it, I just want an easy to use and simple software pack, any help will be welcom...

Re: New Zealand Electoral Rolls

Hi Alan

Thank you for those links, I was told that a death certificate would state how many years she had been in New Zealand for, so I might bite the bullet and go for this.

I always forget how much newspapers can help, so will also be having a look at that one.

Many thanks

New Zealand Electoral Rolls

Hi, I have just recently discovered the New Zealand electoral rolls on Ancestry and was delighted to discover my gtgt Aunt on quite a few, then more relations on the later ones, everything tied in and I found out where they had all lived, but still no mention of how long she had been in the country,...

Re: Can't find a death record anywhere!!

Hi Kirsty,

A Quick check on Scotlandspeople showed up a Robert Condie died in Coatbridge, Lanark in 1940, born 1859, but it didn't show when I added the Fraser surname, could this be your gt grandfather?

Re: Master Mariner

Hello Alan, Thank you so much for all the listings, that has been a great help, I am actually a bit embarrassed, I had been reading the searches all wrong, I thought the ship was named Snelling! I really dont know much about sailing terms as yet! ahem! Its wonderful to get all the ships names, I rec...

Re: Master Mariner

Ann, thank you for these two links, I will keep them for reference now, I had been looking for that list for a while now, without luck. Alan, yes it was only on his death certificate that he was a Master Mariner, I have spent the last few days trawling through the new BritishArchive Newpapers, in th...

Re: Master Mariner

Thank you Tracey and Hibee, I did have a quick look at the national archives, but was not sure if I was in the right place, I will try again tomorrow, good to know there are records available.

Master Mariner

Hi all, I am working on a new branch and away from farming for a bit! I have found a Robert Snelling, married in 1868 , he was a seaman, but beside career is the abbreviation MS, this is what I am not too clear about, would it stand for merchant seaman? when he died in 1904 he was a Master Mariner. ...

Re: Silver City Vault - new online resouce

Hi Elaine,

Thank you for this link, I have been searching for anything on an ancestor from Old Machar, without luck, but have just found a reference to her on the site, thank you, brilliant! Lots of wonderful photos to view too, by the looks of it.
