Re: corrected entry on birth cert

You could look into the Kirk Session Minutes (sadly not online) - that is where I have found most of Father's names and it might explain the 3 months delay. Maybe Jane didn't want to register her until the Father admitted paternity?

Re: Ona DRAGOON - a curiosity

Wonder if there is anything in the newspapers that might explain something?

Re: Alexander Symon 1861-1871

"Can someone with access check his naturaliazation documents..." According the Cook County Court Clerk's Office "The Archives Department holds Cook County Naturalization Records dating from October 1871 until 1929. All records prior to October 1871 were destroyed in the Chicago Fire." Thanks for lo...

Re: Alexander Symon 1861-1871

I think I may have found the Alexander Symon I've been looking for, but some of the information is contradictory. Family Search and Find A Grave has a death of an Alexander Symons on 15 Aug 1907, Cook Co. Il. and gravestone photo gives birth date as 20 Dec 1828. Family Search census says he was born...

Re: Can't find birth record

Another longshot - school records? I used them to confirm where my Granda lived when he went to school - maybe easy for me as I knew the school. If they are his sisters he'd probably have gone to the same primary as they did. Should give the parents name and date of birth. That's an interesting ide...

Re: Can't find birth record

There are 2 Manning births in Bonhill 1914 and 1918 - Sarah and Annie. Not sure the parents but could they be his sisters? And if they are where did they end up?

Re: Can't find birth record

Not much help but have you tried a search just using Francis George and leaving the surname blank? Just wondering about your workhouse rumour and if they would change his first names... There are 9 born in 1916. My Granda's birthday date changed - his WW2 enrolment papers have him a day younger than...

Re: Parent Search

Thanks all - I have to restrict this to weekends, just too tempting to dive in and not come up for air. Bought more credits and dived in this afternoon, will do some more tomorrow. Discovered my Granny was related to my Grandfather  But not *that* closely. May (or Mary or Margaret) Lorimer's bi...
