Re: "Classes" and "Lairs" in cemeteries?
Just to add my tuppenceworth ...... In Sighthill Cemetery in Glasgow, there are 4 references for each Lair. 1. Section (numerical, Section 1 to Section 14) 2. Class (which in this case is another name for a row and is alphabetical - A - Z) 3. Lair No. (numerical, No. 1 - 1000 etc.) 4. Depth (8 feet ...

Re: Stirling Old Churchyard location
If you look at an aerial or bird's eye view (Google/Bing Maps), the Kirkyard is directly 'behind' the Church or looking at the view, to the left. Marr Cemetery sits 'above' this and is opposite Argyll's Lodging. Valley Cemetery sits to the left of both of them. Snowdon Cemetery is to the far left of...

Re: Millwright in Stirling and Glasgow
The Special Collections department of the Mitchell Library (5th Floor) have Sighthill's Burial Registers on microfilm. It's a hit or a miss whether the pages can be read however - some are so feint that no details can be made out at all. There are a number of reels spanning the years, so providing y...

Falkirk District Cemeteries (Genealogy)
I thought I had read a post on the forum regarding Falkirk Cemeteries Office intimating their intention to start charging £26.00 per search for 'look-ups' within Falkirk District cemeteries? (If this has been posted already, then my apologies for not finding it.) See here: http://www.falkirk.gov.uk/...

Re: RULE, Henry b 1922 falkirk
Loads of 'Rules' buried in Camelon Cemetery but obviously any relationship with the Henry in question is unknown. Possibly once his parents are identified we could get a connection.

Re: What's in a name ?
I've come across a few women's first names which made me 'double-take'.
Amongst them are Graham, Nicholas, Mitchell, McGregor and Falconer.
I've lost count of the females called male names with an 'Ina' or 'Ena' stuck of the end (Jamesina, Andrewina etc.,)

Re: Place of Marriage
A case of the information being recorded according to the informant's details/knowledge? Those being not correct for one reason or another?
Otherwise - not a clue!

Re: Mitchell Library
Depends on which department you intend to visit.
Archives and Library - no appointments necessary, but if it's the Registrar's section (BMD's etc.) then you'd be best to book a seat in advance.
