Re: BORRON bankruptcy?
Thanks, Falkryn. I am of course trying to get at why the partnership ended at this time. Perhaps it was simply the 'effluxion of time' (lovely phrase)...time ran out. It was just over 20 years, we think. But there were some dubious things about the will, which I have....to wife Emma and her father, ...

Re: BORRON bankruptcy?
No answer from the Glasgow University Business Archives, but they say up to 20 days. Meanwhile, could I come back to the link from 'Falkyrn' https://www.thegazette.co.uk/London/issue/25844/page/4261 ? I'd like to ask another legal/financial question. I know that John Little was ill and died nine mon...

Re: BORRON bankruptcy?
Yes, the house (the biggest in Ardrossan) changed hands around 1881, to Archibald Douglas Bryce-Douglas. In 1881 a new tower was built, and I doubt if WG Borron did that....

Re: BORRON bankruptcy?
Multiplepoinding - in Scots law, the technical term for a form of action by which conflicting claims to the same fund or property are determined. I've since found (in the Glasgow Herald) that the last glassworks of WG Borron was up for sale by auction in 1880 - first at £13,000 which was a reduced p...

Re: BORRON bankruptcy?
Hi - thanks folks. I've emailed the Glasgow University Business Archives with the same query. The National Records of Scotland has one record of interest at a possible time, 1883, it says it's a "Decree of ranking and preference and act and warrant for payment in multiplepoinding, the Royal Bank of ...

BORRON bankruptcy?
Hello all. After a long gap (family losses) I am now looking into my family in 19th century Glasgow again. My great great grandfather John LITTLE was a manager and partner of William Geddes BORRON, glassmaker, of the Glasgow Glass Works. When the City of Glasgow Bank collapsed in 1878-9, my ancestor...

Re: Bottlemaker in Dumbarton?
Hello Alan. I just saw your post late yesterday. I had a thought and did a search, thought I had heard of Logan’s writing before, and emailed my sister, to see if she could access it – when I got back today she had sent the whole thesis! So, if you would like it, PM me and I can send it to you email...

Re: Bottlemaker in Dumbarton?
Hello again all I had a PM from RootsChat - asking actually about Hugh PRICE, of Borron, Price & Co, glassmakers in Glasgow - (any info welcome) - but this has led me into the byeways of my family. Someone called Primrose BELL who came from the Dumbarton factory in 1815 to their Glasgow works in Jam...

Re: Scots and the American Civil War
Hi Alan. ....sorry I have not been around for a while, had a family bereavement. I had Pollock but not Dykes, Thanks. I found another Pollock, T, a teacher, in Stewarton, Ayrshire (not far away) with a similar letter. Bet he's a relative. But no more in that county. I didn't find any letters of symp...
