There aren't really US specific traditions per say - at least none that I can think of. Baby showers either before or after (or both in some cases) and are done by family or friends or both. Hi Anne, no they aren't as accessible as Scottish ones. BMD's are arranged and handled by each province separately and unless the person is a direct relative you might be out of luck for more recent records as you have to prove you are next of kin for BMD's depending on the time period you are looki...

Hi and thanks for the replies! I have no information about her family at all which is one of the reasons I'd like to start this. In fact my husband didn't even know his grandmother was alive until a few years ago. His mom had a falling out over 30 years ago with her and she ceased to exist! Very sad...

A cousin emailed me a copy of an OPR she received some years ago for the parish of Dumbarton (dated 24.11.1854). On the left column there is a number 3. and underneath is a squiggly mark with what looks like "8/6" beside it. It is the only OPR on this page to have such a mark (its for the banns bein...
