Family story is he went back to Canada which is still a possibility

Trying to find out what happened to James Hackland Wilson after 1891 census. He seems to have disappeared after that. His wife divorced him in 1900. Like Currie my first thought was of the Ship / Admiral. If you check Google UK there is a biologist living in London today called Anson Mackay. Meaning of a name

I am interested in finding out the origins of my grandfather's christian name -
Anson.
Somone once told me it means son of Ann which coincidentally fits in his case.

Found him! Decided to try one death cert and thankfully it was the right one! Alexander died 19/11/1888, his age is given about 40. He died in hospital in Ayr of a tumour of intestine. His widow was informant. His parents listed as Alexander Gilchrist, Carrier, and Margaret Gilchrist, ms McBeth. So ...
