Hello Annette,
William Boyd, Blacksmith sounds very likely. John Boyd and Jessie Stevenson had 5 sons John,James,Alexander, Robert(my grandfather) all blacksmiths and William, Bank Teller.
James and Alexander emmigrated to America (Oregon). James married an Ann Jones and Alexander married an Eliza Minty.
Regards
Elna

Re: John Boyd & Jessie Stevenson
I knew I could count on you, Annette
You'd think after all these years I would remember to look for Wm as well as William
That one was going to Portland, Oregon to join his brother George Boyd, who was living in Fulton. Wm's last residence was in Dumbarton.
It seems like George, the son of William, would be too young to be the brother in Portland.
Did either John or William have another illegitimate son named George?
Or, was William stretching the truth a bit on the ship manifest and referring to his uncle George Stephen? This last seems more likely to me.
Best wishes,
Sarah

Hello All,
I have rechecked my records and found John and Jessie Boyd had another son George Stephen Boyd born August 1872 in Fordyce. I have no idea what became of him.

One more thing:
On Scotlands People there is a marriage of a George S Boyd to Elizabeth Henry Schoolar in 1899 in Wamphrey, Dumfries, where she can be found with her parents in the 1891 census.
Cheers,
Sarah

Re: John Boyd & Jessie Stevenson
Hello Sarah,
I found a birth for Elizabeth Henry Schoolar for August 1853 which would make her 20 years older than George Stephen Boyd. Which would seem to make a marriage unlikely.
So many Boyds moving to America.
Regards
Elna

Hello Elna,
The one I mentioned in the 1891 census in Wamphrey (where the marriage took place) was born about 1876 in Lockerbie, according to the census.
Best,
Sarah

Elizabeth Boyd 26 born Whamphrey, Dumfrieshire (as transcribed)
John Boyd 9 Mo born Glasgow
