Need help

Hi,
I’m posting for a neighbor. Her grandfather Archibald MacIntyre, according to his US military records, was born on Jan 1, 1888 in Cairnbaan Scotland. This woman claims that she went to Lochgoilhead Scotland several years ago and got a copy of his birth record. She said it only listed his mother and it stated that Archibald was illigimate. She misplaced the record during one of her moves, and now wants help getting a copy of the record. I’ve checked on SP for the birth record with no luck. Anyone have any idea why this record wouldn’t be on SP? Cairnbaan isn't even listed as a district on SP.

Cairnbaan is in the parish of Kilmichael-Glassary in Argyll, just up from Lochgilphead. But it doesn't have any records - might be worth contacting scotlandspeople in case it is mis-indexed..

Could be totally unrelated

There is only one "archibald' born 1888 On SP in Kilmichael-Glassary. Archibald Campbell.

Hi Ina,

Cairnbaan is right on the border of Kilmichael-Glassary and South Knapdale parishes (and also close to borders of North Knapdale and Kilmartin parishes).

I suspect the one your neighbour is seeking is Archibald McIntyre, born 13-Jan-1885 in Cairnbaan, registered in Kilmichael-Glassary. He was born illegitimate to Elizabeth McIntyre, and no father's name is given. He shows up in the 1891 census in Cairnbaan, with his mother in his grandparents' household with various other family members.
