TalkingScot forum problems 03-March
Hi All,
TalkingScot forum was hacked earlier today (UK time) which resulted in a few things that you may have seen, depending what time you logged on. Some people got a message telling them that they were permanently banned - that is not the case, you are not banned - that was what the hack did to the forum software. The quick thing to do at that point was to have the site taken offline until we could have something done about it.
Following discussions, our site host was able to restore the site from a backup, which was from 6am (UK time) on 01 March. So about 2½ days worth of data has been lost. So a few posts that were there yesterday and the day before will be missing. In the grand scheme of things, that is a small price to pay to get the site up and running again.
There is a plan to upgrade the forum software on Thursday 09 March, evening (UK time), so the site will go offline then, I guess for a couple of hours. Hopefully the upgraded software will make us less vulnerable to hackers.
Apologies to all who got the "you are permanently banned" message.
Thanks for your patience,
AndrewP
