I think maybe a single end would have been enough for James and Mary! A two room and kitchen, with water closet & etc., sounds a bit expensive.

The years I have for them living at that address are 1885/86. (The years on their death certificates) The name was Richmond, but if Ann (the informant) was a grand daughter rather than a daughter her name could have been McPherson, and it might explain the discrepancy in he name of James first wife.

Hi Annette,
The thing is, you mentioned the name McPherson - Well! Their daughter Jane, (My great grandmother) married Donald McPherson, I had another look, but Jane & Donald's daughter Ann would have been too young to be the informant. I thought it was their(James & Mary's) daughter, Ann Richmond, but why would she get the name of her father's first wife so wrong? I mean - there is no connection between Harrison and Lamond, and James first wife was definitely Elesabeth/Elizabeth Harrison. How about a daughter in law?
I don't know! It's got me beat!
Thanks for trying
Ann
