Hi all,
Not sure if this is the right forum for this topic, but...
Last year in Edinburgh we met a third cousin and his wife, who invited us to their house for dinner and were wonderfully kind and hospitable. During our upcoming trip we want to take them out for dinner somewhere to reciprocate. Any suggestions for a nice restaurant with good food and where it is quiet enough to have good conversation as well?
Thanks for any ideas,
Sarah

Hi Sarah
I dont eat in Edinburgh that often, and when I do it tends to be pretty informal dining! However, worth a mention is Café Truva in Leith. It does great Turkish food at reasonable prices, good café atmosphere:

There are lots of more upmarket places in Leith such as Fishers Bistro - pretty expensive (I've not been there for years! )

Also centrally in Edinburgh there are a number of reasonably priced Italian places: Bar Roma in Queensferry Street, and Pizza Express across the road.

Also the café at Valvona & Crolla (a bit more expensive) at two locations:

For pub meals, the Albanach in the High Street, at the top of Cockburn Street is pretty good value and cecent food, with a "sit at tables" area up the back and not too noisy!

Some Indian Restaurants too including the Kalpna (one of my favourites and brilliant for veggies!)

I'm sure other members will be able to come up with some other suggestions.

There is also a Fishers in the City Centre, in Thistle Street - had a good feed there a couple of years back (work was paying).LesleyB wrote:There are lots of more upmarket places in Leith such as Fishers Bistro - pretty expensive (I've not been there for years! )

Like Lesley, if I am eating in the city centre, it is more usually somewhere informal.
If you like Indian food, I can recommend the Far Pavilions.

All the best,

If you want to push the boat out, you could go to Prestonfield House! Very nice, very expensive, but absolutely lovely.

I think they do set menus for cheaper prices at certain times - means eating early or late, as far as I can remember, but the experience is worth it! The service is amazing, the staff are friendly but not obtrusive, and the food is divine. Or you could go for afternoon tea! £15.95 each, or add a tenner if you want champagne with it...!
