Re: My Grandmother's voyage to Australia, 1911.
I fair enjoyed reading that . =D> How wonderful that she kept a diary and that it survived. My great granny sailed many times via Colombo to and from Malaya and thanks to your gran I have a better idea of what that journey was like.
I suppose the only clue to your granny's condition was that the others were worried about her when the sea was rough.
I hope they had a great life in Australia

Absolutely fascinating! Her account is typically down to earth.
Amazing also that she was 9 months pregnant and told no-one on the voyage! A very courageous lady, I think.

What a great account - it really gives a flavour of what the journey was like, complete with inadequate food and iffy toilet facilities! I was not aware that the concept of "nearly killing yourself laughing" was 100 yrs old either! Such a pity she did not have the opportunity to continue the account all the way to Australia.

Thanks Hibee,
I enjoyed this too, and it was a surprise regarding her pregnancy, although the comment about people worrying about her when the sea was rough made more sense with that knowledge. It was a good read!
