I was looking through an old recipe book of my Mothers.
She must have gone to cooking lessons in 1935 before she was married.
What kind of coffe must this have been
2oz. coffee to 1 pint water
Place coffee in brown jug or pot and pour in cold water, adsd1/4 tsp. salt, put in pan of water and bring to the boil, cook from 1/2 to 3/4 hour stir coffee occasionally.
1/2 fill cup fill remainder with hot milk.
What on earth was that, it wasn't Camp Coffee, it came in a bottle.

Re: Coffee
It all sounds very strange, but I do remember my mother putting a pinch of salt in when she was making coffee!

Re: Coffee
I always add a pinch of Cinnamon to my pot of coffee. I don't like coffee, but a friend told me to make it this way. My husband likes my coffee and I haven't had a complaint from anyone who has tasted it.

Re: Coffee
TS members are probably too young to go back as far as 1935

Re: Coffee
It would have (excuse the pun) been ,coffee beans ground similar to what we buy now,
You would go to the store , usually an up market one and buy the quantity of beans and the shopkeeper would grind it for you.
I recall my Mother putting it in a pot,(no percolaters in those days) with water and boiling it and
I think she put an eggshell in it !
It was strong, similar to turkish coffee.
I only recall it after the war as it was all Camp Coffee during rationing unless you were in the know.
And in case you are wondering I don't go back as far as 1935.

Re: Coffee
Thanks Maureen,
I wondered what it was, I was born 1939 and I don't remember anything but Camp Coffee.
