Hello fmackay,

I guess the first thing to do is not to panic. Your machine is obviously working well enough to get online and post the message.

The second thing is to realise that the error messages may be caused by a great variety of hardware and software problems that in combination could have people guessing for days if not weeks with possibly no result at the end of it all.

The third thing is that you are going to have to supply a lot more information about the error messages, your hardware, operating system, software and whether you’re doing one particular precise thing which brings on the error message. That level of information would be required before anyone remote from your machine would be able to make a reasonable guess at the cause of the problem. In those circumstances, if you can’t sort it out yourself, a knowledgeable friend or relation, a forum which specialises in computer problems or a computer shop might, in that order, be the best one’s to consult.

It is possible that you have too many programs running for your hardware to handle. There may be unnecessary programs starting up when your machine is started, you may have programs which do not shut down properly. You may be using a program which your machine is not capable of handling or on which one particular task is overloading the system. You may have virus activity which is using all your resources. You may have hardware memory problems with your RAM or just not enough of it.

The most obvious thing is to restart your computer. Does the problem still persist? If so make sure your virus definitions are up to date and run a virus scan. Do the same with a spyware scanner such as Adaware. Take a note of any virus found and any spyware of a critical nature. Make sure your system (Windows?) is being updated. Do a general tidy-up of the computer such as a disc clean-up, defragment and maybe a system restore as a last resort.

If, after trying the above, the problem persists you can then decide what you want to do. You could even try Googling although that may just confuse the situation unless someone knows a good web site that deals with such problems.

Hope this helps and the best of luck,
Alan
