Hi Jean
just to add to what you have said..
Did you know that genesreunited have bought the official 1901 census website. You can also do the free search from there.
If anyone wanted to purchase the image it would be cheaper to use the genesreunited site

As far as I can see, the 1901 census index at Ancestry.com is England and Wales only, not Scotland.

Can someone confirm, is the Genes Reunited index also England and Wales only. (I suspect that to be the case.)

All the best,

Andrew Paterson

Hi Andrew
genesreunited bought the "official" 1901 census site... I should have emphasised that this covers England and Wales only.
The images cost 75p to view.
I think that it is only possible to search the Scottish 1901 through scotlandspeople

The 1901 census for Scotland along with 1891 and 1871 will be available only on ScotlandsPeople until the expiry of the contract with ScotlandonLine, which is earliest August 2006, but be aware that there is an option to extend the contract by 2 years; or if an alteration to the present contract is agreed between GROS and ScotlandonLine in terms of allowing other possible service providers access to the data (over and above, that is, various family history societies and the Scottish FreeCen project).

The same, of course, applies to 1861, 1851 and 1841 when they become available.

1881 can, of course, be accessed separately via purchase of the LDS 1881 CDs.
