Intermarried - RUSSELL'S - KIRKLAND'S - SHARP/E'S
Herewith is the info I was thinking about, and trying to recall, on the previous thread, when I mentioned my correspondence with KennethM and Eaglesham re:-
Wm RUSSELL, Woodhouse, Eagleshan, Renfrewshire; Christened June 1st 1834.
A RUSSELL family researcher has this to say:-
Hi Alan
................Ed.
Don't know if you have looked at the Kirkland's much but the Russell's and Sharp's seem to connect with them quite a lot. In fact I think Matthew Kirkland and Isabel Arbuckle may be my 4X Great grand parents on both Sharp and Russell sides. I have not confirmed that Matthew and Elizabeth Kirkland are siblings yet but all the dates and naming patterns fit so it seems possible.
I've attached a couple of sheets summarising where I'm up to with them.
What seems interesting is that Matthew Kirkland born 1798, son of the Matthew mentioned above, is probably the Rev Matthew Kirkland born Carmunnock and part of the Church "dissent" in the 1800's through his parish of New Cummock. I've attached a clip on him too. If Elizabeth and Matthew are siblings you can claim him too!
Hope the research and farming are going well. Where we live the Cornwall Park Trust is farming Simmentals.
........................Ed.
Regards
Sue

Interesting to note that this researcher lives within one kilometre of where the SHARP'S first settled in New Zealand, and they look out at the surviving dry scoria stone walls that the settlers built. Similar to the ones in Renfrewshire and around the Kirk at Eaglesham.
Yet another example of our interwoven families. Much like a good Paisley !
Alan SHARP.
EDIT. The double link for those interested, being James RUSSELL & Janet KIRKLAND, Troch, Eaglesham 1819, John RUSSELL & Elizabeth BUCHANAN , Troch Eaglesham 1848, and the KIRKLAND link with Carnummock being John CAMPBELL & Elizabeth KIRKLAND 1793 and Agnes CAMPBELL & John SHARP Cathcart 1823. Hence the KIRKLAND link from both directions with the union of Wm RUSSELL, Eaglesham, and Agnes SHARP, Row, marrying Auckland New Zealand 1870. Further complicated when Agnes's sister Helen SHARP from the John SHARP line married into the Wm SHARP line at Auckland NZ 1860.
