Post by Mc Fadyen » Thu Sep 15, 2011 7:19 pm

Hi can anyone help to find a death please. It is for Agnes Murphy she was on the census 1911 liveing in 86, bouverie terrace Port glasgow with her mother
Mary Ann McCaughey and sister Mary Ann who was death and dumb. Agnes was 36. Her husband died 1919 and it said widower, so she died between 1911
to 1919. I have looked at lots of death for murphy on scot people, but cannot find her, has anyone got any idea .
Thanks if you can.

Hi McFadyen

Checking ScotlandsPeople, there are only 4 Agnes Murphy deaths between 1911 and 1919, where the female was born 1875 +/- 5 years (and only 2 of those were born 1875 +/- 1).

I did not include Port Glasgow in the search because she may have moved after the census, or she may even have died away from home. It may not even have been far from home. She could have died at a hospital outside her usual local area, and the death would have been recorded there, not in her home locale.

Hope this helps.

hi paddyscar I have tried all areas and lots of different first names but still cannot find her. Her husband John died in procial Asylum in Greenock and
usual residence was 3 Bouverie street. His son in law was the informant, I just dont now where to look next.

Where was she born? or where were her parents born?

McCaughey sounds Irish so she may even have died there.
The census records will tell you birth places.

What else points to her dying young?
You say she was 36 in 1911, but a son-in-law signed his Death cert a few years later? was he married before?

Her mother may have died in 1950 in Lanarkshire in her 80's
Only one Mary Ann McCaughey death on SP post-1911. Looking at that may yield some clues.
Or finding a gravestone?

Hi WilmaM Agnis was born in Ireland Antim but her name could have been Nancy as I found two Nancy in her family, but I have looked at nancy on the Scots
people. I realy dont think she died in Ireland as this was my dads mother and he never said she died in Ireland, Did you say there was a Mary Ann Mc Caughey
on the Scots people that died in 1950 I havent seen that.

I entered Mary Ann McCaughey for the whole of Scotland and there was only 1 post 1911 census.
Using the search facility I narrowed it down to 1950 in Lanarkshire. Haven't the credits to look any further.

It's an unusual name so the spelling variatons are endless, so it may not be 'your' one. but could be worth a look.

Hi WilmaM
Thanks for that but I dont think it is Agnis mother as on the 1911 census she was 71 so if she died 1950 it would make her over 100.
Agnis had a sister called Mary Ann but she went to America with her sister Jane. It seems strange that there isnt a death for her.
