The Moray Council Libindx

Post by ficam » Sun Jan 29, 2012 11:29 pm

Hello again , does anyone know what happened to The Moray Council's online ordering service?

I used to be able to order miscellaneous items from the library on the site and have had some very useful documents such as poor relief applications and court records.

However whenever I have tried for the last year or so, you now only seem to be able to order newspaper extracts. The link to the miscellaneous items is still there but when you click on it , it says it is unavailable or temporarily disabled. I have tried e-mailing Moray Council to ask if it will ever be available again and why it has been withdrawn, but they never replied.

Has anyone else used the service in the past and know what happened to it ...I had a list of items I still wanted to order ( but did not want to pay for all at once!!)

Hello Ficam,

None of my lot seems to have made it to Moray and I have only very rarely used the site. The Moray Poor Law records are apparently in the process of being digitised and are unavailable because of that. Maybe everything is being affected by the digitisation. I’m just guessing really.

For anyone else interested this is the Moray Council Libindex service http://libindx.moray.gov.uk/mainmenu.asp The link on the left to ‘Request archived copies’ takes you to the Newspaper and MI page and beyond that to the message about the unavailability of Miscellaneous Articles.

All the best,
Alan

Hi Ficam,

They're trying to work out a new system of payment for requests for miscellanous items according to the amount of information i.e. the difference between a Poor Relief record of just one page as opposed to a record of a court case which could consist of a hundred pages or more.

The Moray Poor Law Records are still available in Elgin it's the Aberdeen copies that are being digitised.

Regards

Jen

Thanks Alan and Jen...I don't know why they could not have replied to my e-mails to tell me something so simple ..!

Jen , do you know if the Elgin records are available to order online anywhere?

I must get this sent before the link to the site disappears again ...a la Brigadoon.

Thanks again
