Are you.....

Post by Miss Poohs » Sun Nov 27, 2005 1:43 am

fed up with my questions yet?

I've another one for ya

My G Grandmother Susan Jane Todd (ms McMeekin) was knocked down and killed in Dumbarton Rd, Glasgow in Sept 1929.

I have seen her death cert. which states the accident, however in the margin of the entry it refers to Register of Corrections made Jan 1930.

Is it possible for me to see the correction made, and if so where can I view it?

Thanks

Janice

Hi Janice,
You'll be able to view it if you visit Park Circus.
Just ask the staff to help you find it - it'll be on microfiche though, and not as a digital image.
Jack
ps, have you checked the Clydebank Press or any other local paper? G-granny's unfortunate end may well be mentioned.
The Library should have back newspapers.
pps, just noticed you said Dumbarton Rd, GLASGOW. Then maybe check the newspapers at The Mitchell?

The RCE entry is unlikely to produce anything more than confirmation of the place, time and place, and cause of death. There's an outside chance that there was a Fatal Accident Inquiry, and that the record of this has survived to the present day.

There might also be a couple of paragraph inches in the local newspaper .....

I'm actually quite excited about it Alan - is that sad? 8-[

I'll be the complete novice asking all the daft questions.

The woman that I spoke to on the phone was really helpful - so I'm sure I'll get as much as poss out of my first visit.

Hi Janice,

I will offer you a piece of advice for your visit to Park Circus (which applies equally to a visit to any other source of records - such as New Register House). Do as much preparation work as you can. Have your targets of the people whose records you seek to find, and have as much information with you that you may need to help you seek them. The amount you get from such a research visit is fairly proportional to the amount of preparation work you can do in advance.

If you go in searching randomly for people with no set agenda, you will find some of them, but not as efficiently as if you had done your homework first.

All the best,

Andrew Paterson

Can I just ask another question?

When I get to Park Circus, and find some additional info, can I save the documents to my memory stick, or is it possible to print off a copy and take it away?

Hi Janice,

Assuming the setup is similar to New Register House (I've never been to Park Circus), there is no facility for you to save documents to your memory stick. Print outs are available for a fee (check with supervisor there for prices). Otherwise, it is copying by hand.

All the best,

Agree with Andrew, afraid you not be able to save to memory stick. If it is a BMD certificate or census you will be able to get a photocopy of it at 50 pence a copy, there will be slips of paper for you to fill in if a BMD certificate then you will put the GROS number and type of certificate, the name of the person also your station letter (on the pc) you will have to hand them over before 3.00pm for them to be printed out. Best to do this as you go along and not hand over a load at 3.00.
