Hi Audrey
Have you tried using the calendar tab? - if he died on the 12th the death intimation if there is one (it seems only to be the well-off and the well-off wannabees who put notices in!!) would probably be within the next few days.
If you use the calendar tab you can choose the year and day - You should be taken to page one of that day's issue.
As far as I'm aware, although the death notices were on the back page later on, a little before that they were on the 2nd last page. And I do seem to remember also that back then (1820s, maybe not 30s) there only seemed to be two issues a week - something like Wednesday & Saturday? Not sure.
If he was killed in an accident it may be worth having a look at the rest of the paper for the days following to see if there is any report, by going through the pages- but again, I'd stick with the calendar tab to narrow down the issues - I haven't found the search engine to be very reliable, it seems to miss a lot, maybe, as was suggested on anther post, due to the limitations of OCR.
Anyway, I'll shut up now!! Hope you find something.
Best wishes
Lesley
