Hi all,
I found two records for one of my ancestors, Thomas Carson, butcher, Irvine on the NAS. He apparently got himself into trouble with the Public Health Act in 1892, and it seems to have dragged on until 1911.
Is there any way of obtaining a copy of proceedings from NAS?

Give them the info that you have and ask for a quote for copies of the records that they hold.
See the Sources tab here for contact details.
It may be more economic to use a professional researcher to look at the records and extract info, just making copies of what's really interesting.

Well it has been over a week and I haven't heard anything back from them.
I wonder, can anyone please give me a precise email address to request this information please? I think I may have sent it to the wrong department or something!

Thanks for the interest people. I did get a reply today, which was very thorough.
It seems there are three parts to my ancestor's court records. The first "...contains various court documents including the ‘Bill of Suspension’, ‘Complaint’ and several letters, running to approximately 30 pages." If I want a copy, it will cost me twenty pounds.
The second part "...is a fairly large amount of information amongst the sequestration papers contained in this item. Included are the Sederunt book: Deliverance: Inventory and Valuation: Act and Warrant: Accounts and several small letters and, running to approximately 170 pages." A cost of 240 pounds for that...
but the lady did go on to say WHY it was so expensive... microfilmed stuff takes time to copy. I can understand that.
The third part is the Justiciary Appeals Book (9 Jan 1890-20 Dec 1906) and she has found the relevant stuff for my Thomas but "... it contains only a very small amount of information including Thomas Carson’s address and mention that he was convicted under the “Public Health (Scotland) Act”. The details are handwritten in three columns spread across two pages. The volume is in good condition..." Ten pounds is quoted for this section.
I am able to purchase any or all three sections, but I don't see myself being able to afford 240 pounds for the biggest part. She was very helpful in suggesting I ise a researcher to go through it and obtain just the relevant stuff if I can't get there myself.
I was thinking of purchasing the first part and seeing if my curiosity was appeased enough by that before paying for a researcher for the big section, however I don't know what the documents are really going to tell me. Also I really do not have money to waste (like most of us). But I admit I am curious about the 'letters' she mentions!
Anyone have experience with these kinds of documents?
