Hello everyone,
at last week's User Group meeting, it was mentioned that Raymond Evans will be a guest on tomorrow's (Tuesday 7 Feb) Fred MacAulay show on BBC Radio Scotland. He will be talking to Fred about family history, and Jane Horrocks (English actress from Lancashire) will also be heard, but we suspect that she will be in a different studio.
Raymond is secretary of the User Group but his usual role is as Internet and External Services Manager for GROS, based at New Register House. Jane is the next subject of "Who do you think you are?" on BBC TV. Her best-known roles range from the Mike Leigh film "Life is Sweet" through the dippy secretary Bubbles in "Absolutely Fabulous" to the (to me, incredibly annoying) Tesco adverts. I know almost nothing about Fred MacAulay.
The show runs from 0930 to 1100 GMT, and can be found between 92 and 95 on FM and 810 on MW.
For people some distance from Scotland, the show can be listened live or through "Listen again" up to the following day (although today's rerun appeared to start after 15 minutes had elapsed). The link is:

Raymond was approaching the show with his usual calm, understated professionalism - "Ah'm brickin' masel'".
Regards,
John

It's not a bad idea to admit to not knowing much about Fred MacAuley, he is a 'Comedian' of the 'Stand Up' variety and one-time TV talk show host.
His program is a light hearted look about what is happening in the world and talking to various celebrities about what is going on in their usually small world so I would not expect a serious examination of matters genealogical.
I usually catch most of his program when I'm off shift and will listen in tomorrow whilst being domestic. I'm quite looking forward to the Jane Horrocks prog on Wednesday night as I watched all the rest, some are better than others. One gripe about the "Who do you think you are?" progs are how easy they make it look, which is OK if you've got the resources of the BBC. There was a clip of Sheila Hancock looking at the IGI site on a PC in her house which seemed OK but again it was probably staged.
By the way you can also listen live at

I'd like to be apathetic but I really can't be bothered.
Looking for blacksheep & not finding any with
Groats & Stevensons in Orkney, Hood's in Dundee/Angus, Mclaren's in Clackmannan and Jolly's in Kincardineshire. There may be more!

Re: Raymond on the radio
Hello everyone,
Raymond did well despite a dry throat from nerves. For those listening again, you can advance to 35 minutes and listen to him for 10 minutes.
The only news was that he expects OPR images to be towards the end of this year. The open day in NRH this Saturday (11th February) between 11 and 3 may well be heaving with people after this extra publicity.
Regards,
John
