GROS query.....
Does anyone know if there are facilities for a cup of tea when researching records at GROS

When I went at the end of February there were no such luxuries I'm afraid. Lunchtime found me outside on a building site snaffling a sausage roll imported from Yorkshire - didn't want to waste precious search time in a cafe
By the look of things, the building works will take a considerable time, so I can't imagine it will be much different by now. Maybe someone else knows differently, but I'd take supplies and a warm blanket - maybe even a hottie and some snowshoes (there isn't even a room for snackers) or head for the nearest cafe - there are plenty nearby.
Enjoy your visit.
Best wishes

Under normal circumstances there is the "Lunch Room" at New Register House, a place for eating your sandwiches and the like, with a coffee machine. While the reconstruction work is going on to join up New Register House (the home of GROS) with General Register House (the home of NAS), the Lunch Room is not available.

Within a hundred yards or so of NRH there are a couple of pubs which serve food (non-smoking by law from this weekend
), a couple of sandwich bar / bakers' shops and a well known burger joint.
All the best,
Andrew Paterson

That's the plan, but it's still only a plan as the finance has not yet been secured. In the interim, the currently suspended coffee room will be restored, so bring your own sarnies !susieq wrote:When the next phase of the works are finished, there will be a new cafeteria built, to the rear of the NAS. For customers and staff.
