Fellow searchers.
I’m not sure if everyone is aware that the “Scotsman” newspaper has been digitized and is now online to search. http://www.scotsman.com/
I quote…
“Search every edition of The Scotsman between 1817 and 1950 in our unique online archive.
Find out if an ancestor of yours appears in our births, marriages and deaths notices, or even in a news story.
Read contemporary accounts of events such as: the Highland Clearances; the Burke and Hare trial; the inauguration of the Wallace Monument.
The Archive now covers up to 1950 and will extend eventually to the present day.”
Searching is free but if you locate an article that you want to view one must “login” and pay seven pounds for twenty-four hours of viewing. READ the section “Searching for surnames” tips. It will save you time and will make your searching more effective.
I located a number of my relative’s World War I “war death” notices. Even lucked out and found an article that contained a copy of the last letter written home by my grandmother’s brother before he was killed in action in 1915. To me it was well worth the seven pounds.
