Re: smith family
Hi debz,
Do you know when they were born? Where were they living when the 1930 census was taken? With a name like Smith, we need all the help we can get!
All the best,
Sarah

Re: smith family
So Debz, have you got the 1911 census for the family?
that will give you lots of info on them all [ ages, birth place, occupations etc]
Then if you think the younger 2 emigrated then you can maybe check for passenger lists or Ellis Island [for USA arrivals]
others here are experienced in all the best places to look.
Having the official documents [ birth, marriage and census] can help a great deal in traking the right people down.
They can all be found [ if in Scotland ]on the Scotland's People website.
Smiths will not be the easiest of folks to trace!

Hi debz,
So, if I understand correctly, combining your two topics, you are not really trying to find out about either the Smiths or the Cotters, but about the Cameron family?
Did the information about Alexander Cameron the marine engineer and his wife Rachel Cameron come from William Cotter and Jeanie Cameron's marriage certificate? Were either of the parents shown as deceased or were they both still living in 1903?
Here is an Alexander Cameron, marine engineer, but his wife is Maggie, and no Jeanie in the household:
1901
21 Leven St, Dumbarton
Alexander Cameron, 53, Head, born Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Marine Engineer
Maggie Cameron, 51, Wife, born Dumbarton
John H Cameron, 20, Son, plasterer's apprentice
William Cameron, 19, son, joiner's apprentice
Alexandrine Cameron, 17, son, born Dumbarton, carpenter's apprentice
James H Cameron, 13, son, born Dumbarton, Scholar
What was Jeanie's address when she married in 1903 and what was her occupation?
Any more information you can give us will be helpful. Cameron is a very common name in Scotland.
Regards,
Sarah

Re: smith family
So they were at the same address when they married? I was hoping to find an address that would point me to where her parents were living in the 1901 census. I take it that neither of her parents was indicated as deceased on the marriage certificate?
