Hello Maggie,
The Philadelphia death certificates can be searched and downloaded for free on FamilySearch.org :D
https://familysearch.org/search/collect ... on/1320976

She is easily found, but I'll let you have the fun of discovery

All the best,
Sarah

Hello Sarah
thankyou ever so much for answering my message and pointing me in the right direction its definitly my Anna :D but it opens up the mystery as to why she was there and why she was known by her first married name possibly the shame of having a bankrupt 2nd husband who made it into the newspapers of the time .Oh this is so exciting (prehaps the reason im having trouble sleeping today)
thanks once again
kind regards
maggie

I think we can all understand that! :D

Was the bankruptcy in Philadelphia? When did her second husband die?
In the 1910 census she is living with her daughter Annie and son-in-law David Sykes at 2520 Sixth Street, Philadelphia and is called Anna Magee. She said she came to the U.S. in 1878.

All the best,
Sarah

Hi Sarah
i have no idea as to when James Bickerton her second husband died
she married him in 1858 in Belfast (i have the certificate)he was a Hatter from London who opened a store in Belfast in 1857 .Anna born 1825 was a milliner James appears in newspaper clippings regarding bankruptcy charges from 1859 to 1863 in Belfast.
Anna had two children by her first marriage to Malcolm Magee who died in 1853
Anna born 6th Feb 1853 & baptised 17th Oct
William born 25th Feb 1854 & baptised april 1854 (Anna was only 2 months pregnant at the time of his death)
until now i had no idea what became of them all years ago i did toy with the idea that William had gone to America but never proved anything
Thanks once again for your help Sarah i must dash work calls again unfortunatly id love to just sit and get stuck into this again
kind regards
maggie

Hello Maggie,

The Philadelphia Inquirer is online but unfortunately on a pay site. There appears to be something there for Anna Magee, maybe death, funeral, and legal notices, but the snippets don’t help, and I can’t be sure about any of that. They may have a trial but it’s possibly a paid one requiring a credit card and so on. There may not be any new information and I’ll leave it up to you as to whether it’s worth it.
