Hello
can anyone please help me to find William ?
on the 1880 census i have found
William Magee watch maker born Ireland aged 26
living with his wife Kate Magee aged 24 born PA
and their daughter Anna aged 8months born PA
they are living in Philadelphia Pennsylvania.
I have been searching for William ,his sister Anna
and his mother also called Anna and stepfather James Bickerton,
for about 4 yrs now but they all seemed to have vanished from Ireland
without a trace after 1858.
This William in Philadelphia i have found in the 1880 census
was born right place, right timescale, and to have a daughter called Anna seems to make him a likely candidate (i'm hoping so anyhow)so any information on William would be most appreciated.
kind regards maggie

Hi maggie
I hate to get your hopes up by making a post but did want to tell you that I've been looking for this family in all the US census indexes and so far I'm not finding the Magee's in any other year . It doesn't help that the 1890 US census does not exist so that there is a huge 20 year gap there. I'll keep thinking but it's not looking good
Best wishes
Jean

Maggie
I'm not clear if there's a suggestion of a Scottish connection.
If there is, then there's a least one booklet (David Dobson??) listing Scottish watchmakers.
David
PS later, - wrong man, it's Donald Whyte, - see the Scottish Genealogy Society's bookshop, which includes info on these booklets, - http://www.scotsgenealogy.com/acatalog/ ... sions.html

Hello David

no scottish connection that i'm aware of unless further back in time scale
here is briefly the story as i have it
Anna Eid married Malcolm Magee
in 1852 in Belfast
(both born in Belfast)
daughter Anna born 1853
Malcolm McGee died in July 1853 whilst Anna the wife was carrying
son william born in 1854.
Both Children Christened in Townsend street presbyterian church
Anna the mother remarries in 1858 in Belfast to James Bickerton a hatter
