Hi John
What is it you are trying to find out about him?
Do you know where the couple married? Do you think it was Scotland or NZ?

Have you searched for his birth on Scotlands People? There does seem to be one for that year in Laggan in the county of Inverness, and downloading a copy of the original entry will give you his parents' names. That in turn will lead to their marriage and also to the census years to help you find out more about the family.

Best wishes
Lesley

Hello John,

There’s some WW1 information at http://muse.aucklandmuseum.com/database ... dinal=7763

New Zealand Expeditionary Force
Full Name: Alexander Cameron McKillop
Serial No: 3/43
First Known Rank: Major
Next of Kin: Donald McKillop, Greyvall, Nairn, Scotland
Marital Status: Single
Enlistment Address: Mental Hospital, Porirua, New Zealand
Etc.

I assembled this from snippets of The Lily Year Book, 1956, Issue 20, Page 68, by the Royal Horticultural Society (Great Britain). I had a feeling he would be into something like this on his days off and would say this is probably him. http://books.google.com.au/books?id=CiZ ... rch_anchor

LILY GROWING IN NEW ZEALAND
By A. C. McKillop

IT is very flattering to receive an invitation to write a short article on my hybrids but it would be more interesting for your readers if I include a brief history of lily growing in New Zealand, and a short description of lilies that have been raised here by prominent hybridizers. As a New Zealander by adoption I may be permitted to say that this country is ideal for the cultivation of lilies. Here in Christchurch we have an annual rainfall of 27 in. and most of the lily species can be grown well. For many years most species have flowered well without any signs of disease. Several years ago the late Mr W. A. Constable wrote, “New Zealand is a very wonderful lily country and I wish that I had realized that years ago.” Still we have our trials and tribulations. On 16th October 1955, our last spring, we had a frost of sixteen degrees which killed outright hundreds of trumpet lilies and we got few blooms from Lilium auratum and its hybrids, Martagon, brownii, etc. Early in February this year we had the worst hail-storm on record—with hail-stones as big as hen's eggs. It lasted only a few minutes but the damage was very extensive. All lilies in this area of the city had blooms and foliage cut to shreds, buds were knocked off, and we lost about 80 per cent of the pods formed on the .......

It goes on for another five pages and if you want more you’ll have to read the book.

Hope that’s useful,
Alan

Thanks,

Sergeant Donald Alan Cameron McKillop is the son of Alexander.
He was killed in action, in the same battle my father took part in but he was in a Scottish regiment.
They did not know each other.

His brother Duncan is the one i am missing info on and any children of Alexander.
