It's me again John from Australia my Mother and Grandparents came to Australia from Scotland around 1912/13 as I have found them on the 1911 Census living in Pollokshaws Glasgow, how a when and by which ship they got here remains a mystery.I've tried this end finding out arrivals no results .They may have paid there own way so our shipping list don't record everyone. There names were :
David Letham Hamilton born 1885 (Grandparent)
Margaret Sawers Hamilton (Dewar) b 1885( " )
Mabel Lorraine Letham Hamilton b 1909 (My Mother)
I know they were here in 1918 as a Uncle died as an infant then. Born in Feb 1917,another mystery for me to solve.

Have you found your uncle's birth record? In Scotland, Australia or elsewhere?
All the best,

Hello John,
Is that the Orontes arrived Brisbane 2 September, 1912? It doesn’t say the records are missing in this list, although many nearby are. There’s no Immigration Department reference in the column and I guess that doesn’t look good. http://members.iinet.net.au/~perthdps/s ... 5.htm#qld5
According to The Brisbane Courier, 29 August 1912, the Orontes, which left London on July 19, had on board 42 Government immigrants for Queensland. They comprised 5 married men, 10 married women, 13 singe men, 3 single women, and 11 children. Their nationalities were English 32, Scotch 6, and Russian Jews 4. http://trove.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/article ... tleid%3A16
Looking at that lot, there must have been a lot of married men who came to Australia alone and whose wives followed them later. If you can’t get a family match on FMP and there’s a big gap between births maybe that’s what happened.

Re: How did they get here
I sort of remember someone saying my grandfather came here first ,then went back. He was in Scotland in 1911 on the Census. My mother said she was 4 or 5 when she come here 4 would have made it 1913.I may have to go to the national library here and see what I can find out.
