Dykenook or Dykeneuk East Kilbride

Post by shaigh » Fri May 03, 2024 7:56 am

Does anyone know where in East Kilbride Dykenook is/was. I have several ancestors born or living in this place but cannot find it on any of the old maps.
There are Dykenooks in other parts of Scotland and even in England but not in East Kilbride.

Hi shaigh,

It shows on maps as Dikeneuk and looks to be a farm.

On Google Maps StreetView, the sign on the end of the barn labels it as Dykeneuk.

It was out in the countryside in East Kilbride parish, but as East Kilbride town has expanded, it is only just outside the built up area nowadays.

All the best,

The Valuation Rolls show it as Dykeneuk from 1915 onwards.
Owned by a William Watt and farmed/tenanted by different folks: John Purdy, Arch. Craig, Murray & George Dick, and in the 1930/40's a James Craig.
Are they any of your folks?

My Mum was born at Dykenuek. Her dad was James Craig. The farm is still in the family and currently run by my cousin.
