I've also known a Sarah called Cissie, but also a Davina - & I think that might be a diminutive for sister.

Cissy is a short form of a number of names, including, but not limitted to: Cecilia, Cisserina, Frances, Christine/ina and Sarah.
Searching for Keogh, Kelly, Fitzgerald, Riddell, Stewart, Wilson, McQuilkin, Lynch, Boyle, Cairney, Ross, King, McIlravey, McCurdy, Drennan and Woods (to name but a few).

Also looking for any information on Rathlin Island, County Antrim, Ireland.

My lot are all born Sarah, wey the faimily cawin' thaem Cissie.
Recently the "H" has been removed in the naming of the weans and we have three Sara's noo.

Hi Jean,
My gran Elizabeth Haldane was called Cissy .I had a look to find out if it was a diminutive and best I could find was Cecillia .It certainly wasn't as a sister as my Grandfather also called her Cissy .

Asked my cousin why one of our rellies was called Cissie.She said she was called after two Susans already in the family,so everyone called her Cissie.

I have been called sissy on a number of occasions and I’m a man.
The last time was when I went white and weak at the knees when a nurse tried to shove a needle in my bottom.
