Whew! Here's the mystery solved... and here I was feeling sorry for Margaret who was being carted around between Aberdeen and Newhills while giving birth... it's just a misread of a 5 for a 3. Ann is two years older. I'm sure we can now rest easier...

1881
19 Upper Leadside, Old Machar
Francis Coutts, 33, Head, born Glenmuik, Aberdeen, Quarry Labourer (Granite)
Margaret Coutts, 24, Wife, born Kinellar, Aberdeen
William F Coutts, 8, Son, born Aberdeen, Aberdeen, Scholar
Alex Robb Coutts, 6, Son, born Aberdeen, Aberdeen, Scholar
Ann F Coutts, 5, Daughter, born Aberdeen, Aberdeen, Scholar
Francis Coutts, 3, Son, born Newhills, Aberdeen
Agnes J Coutts, 1, Daughter, born Aberdeen, Aberdeen

And, no surprise given Alex's middle name, Margaret's last name is Robb. From the IGI, an extracted entry:

FRANCIS COUTTS & MARGARET ROBB
Marriage: 07 DEC 1872 Saint Nicholas, Aberdeen, Aberdeen

Thanx for the help. I had already found the marriage on SP (forgot I had it Sorry) but you have helped clear up the parents names Ithought it was Robb but it was very hard to decipher and also had her father down as Thomas not Francis again poor quality.Hopefully I can now get back a bit further

Zero,

I have Gaulds from Glenbuchat and Coutts from Crathie in my tree - both married into my Mitchell family from Crathie - do those addresses mean anything to you?

Hi, Hope you're still monitoring this forum. My great-grandparents were also James Gauld and Elizabeth Davidson Gauld. My grandfather was Robert Davidson Gauld, number 5 of the seven children. Bob migrated to Australia in 1910, married Lily Bell and had two children Ormonde Davidson (my father) and Myrna Enid. Orme married Leonie Armstrong in 1953 and they had eight children. I am the eldest and my name is Janita. Hope to hear from you.

Not doing the genealogy as much now as I hit too many brick walls & didn't have a hammer ](*,) & even now when I do check can't do much
