Re: The elusive Janet/Jessie Simpson
Bates… Sounds familiar. Looks like you found John.
I realized that in 1841, Ellen Mutch and kids are in Bishopwearmouth (William is not there for the Census), a few pages away in the Census from the John Simpson you found… So it becomes very likely that it is him and that they moved together or one followed the other.

Re: The elusive Janet/Jessie Simpson
Hello,
It's been a while.
We are also still searching, on and off.
It is wonderful that you found (I presume) Isabella's Death Certificate. We could not find anything about her death and Georges death (for him somewhere between 1868 and 1871).
Do you have the reference for her Death Certificate ?
Thank you for sharing,
Gabriel

Re: The elusive Janet/Jessie Simpson
Hiya,
I haven't got her death cert - yet - that is what I am going to look for next. The snippet below came from a contact on Rootschat. com in response to an appeal for info re. her parents which has also produced this
'I wonder if this might be Isabella on SP.
ISABELLA BARCLAY 29/07/1818 Leuchars
WILLIAM BARCLAY/JANET GRANT
They married there 13/07/1816'
I had already got these as possible parents but it is looking ever more likely!
There is a death
SIMPSON, GEORGE age
58 GRO Reference: 1869 S Quarter in DARLINGTON UNION Volume 10A Page 6
That could be George, but haven't investigated further. Will let you know if I find anything more!

Re: The elusive Janet/Jessie Simpson
Have a look on here! Lots of lovely Barclay burials! Including Janet Barclay nee Grant in 1847 of consumption, widow of William Barclay, brewer, last address Temple Lane. Son John is also in there in 1845, age 12 due to a disease of the spine, son of late William Barclay labourer, last address Temple Lane.

Re: The elusive Janet/Jessie Simpson
Good evening,
Ah yes, I remember having this William Barclay and Janet Grant.
My wife and I went to Dundee several years ago and we found the exact same information, without being able to firmly confirm the link, but it is very likely.
Maybe the adress Isabella was living when she died in Dundee is a clue (a sibling's adress ? parents ?)
I guess she returned to Dundee after being injured (or she fell while visiting family there).
I don't see the link for the burials in your last post, but I suppose it is the Friends of Dundee City Archives that I found today googling the cemetery (and it is giving the Death Information you were given). http://www.fdca.org.uk/pdf%20files/HowffB01.pdf (EDIT: now I can see the link in your post, same place )
I also found that about the adress : https://scotlandsplaces.gov.uk/digital- ... lume-34/28
I feel that we might be able to advance again.
Regards
