Mystery Lennox family member

Post by francois2015 » Sun Jan 04, 2015 9:26 pm

I'm searching for information on: Jessie Lennox(1875-1909) - Jessie was born 21 December 1875 in Old Cumnock, Ayrshire. She was a daughter of George Lennox & Margaret McLelland. 1881 Scotland Census. 1891 census she's a servant in the Demster home in Loudoun. She married David Aiken. There were 2 boys; Robert Aiken(1892 - ) & George Aiken(1892 - ). Jessie died on 7 November 1909 in Kilmarnock at age 33. Their two boys were raised in Glasgow, Scotland, by her brother William Lennox and her sister Mary Lennox. I can't find any marriage or death records anywhere for Jessie? Nothing on the boys? Any help would be appreciated. Alan ](*,)

Hi francois2015
And welcome to TalkingScot :D

There is a marriage record for these names on ScotlandsPeople, but the date does not quite tally with what one might expect from the dates of birth of the children (twins?) you have given in 1892, so it may not be the correct couple:
1905 AITKEN DAVID LENNOX JESSIE KELVIN GLASGOW CITY/LANARK 644/09 0310

Do you have a copy of the birth of either of the boys? That should give a date and place of marriage of the parents (though it is not always accurate)

There is also a death for Jessie Aitken/Lennox on ScotlandsPeople for 1909, so that would be worth downloading as it should give some extra information.

There are 6 births for George Aitken in 1892 and 16 matches for a Robert Aitken in the same year.

Best wishes
Lesley

Hi Lesley, Interesting! I've rummaged around on ScotlandsPeople and didn't find what you did? Maybe I'm all thumbs :?
I'll have to go back and try again. Maybe I should read the directions . . .
Tnx

It's confirmed, I must be getting dementia :? I just went on Scotlandspeople and after a couple tries I'm now holding Jessie's death record in my grubby hands. I guess I just need a push. Thanks Lesley.

Chugging along like crazy while streak lasts. Got the marriage licence which gave me David's parents. Found the family on the census. Now going after the 2 sons which appear to have been born around 1906. [cheers]
Thanks

Today has been a good day. Using info from David & Jessie's marriage record I managed to narrow the search for their 2 sons. I now have their birth records in my hands. Now maybe I'll pour myself a little holiday cheer and put my feet up by the fire. [cheers]
