Christina Campbell born 1821 Crieff ??

Post by carnick » Mon Nov 12, 2018 9:39 pm

Help needed in identifying the parents of Christina Campbell.
Have the following information:
1841 Census - Resident at New Town Panbride - Servant to Capt. John Maxwell (Coastguard)
Christina Campbell age 22 - born abt 1821 Crieff, Perth.

1841 21st Dec Peter Bennet Private 93rd Highlanders married Christina Campbell at Panbride, Angus.

Originally thought her to be the daughter of Duncan Campbell and Betty King of Crieff, but have now ruled this out since finding the burial records for Duncan and Betty Campbell and their daughter at Crieff.
We have the Census records for Peter Bennet and Christina at Dundee for 1851,1861.
It is the earlier information we need.
cheers Nick

Hello Nick,

The first thing I was going to suggest was a look at her death entry but I don't see anything obvious in Scotland.

Do you know where she died?

Regards,
Annette

Hi Annette,
We know from 1841 to 1881 Christina (Campbell) Bennet was living in Dundee.
In the 1891 Census she had moved to Kent and was living with her daughter Eliza (Bennet) Kelly in Chattenden Road, Strood.
In 1898 27th Nov a burial for Christina Bennet age 69 of Chattenden is recorded at Frindsbury, Kent.
On reflection we think that she may have been born between 1819 and 1822 given the various ages on records. [1841 age 22, 1851 age 29, 1861 age 34, 1871 age 44, 1881 age 55, 1891 age 70, 1898 age 69? ].
Just to confuse matters Eliza Bennet originally married a Daniel Lemon and had John, Christina and James in Dundee.
Eliza moved down to Kent where in Dec 1879 she married John Kelly a soldier of 21st Regt. at Frindsbury, Strood.
In 1880 the family were at Ayr Barracks, when son William was born. A Daughter Beatrice Christina (1882) and another son Frederick (1884) followed.
The family moved back to Frindsbury by (1885/6) when Catherine and then James (1887/8) were born.
We can trace back down the Bennet line to 1796 15th July when Peter Bennet (senior) married Christian Elizabeth Fowles at Perth.
Perhaps you can shed some light to make some sense of this?
Regards Nick
