Daryl,

Brattan is mostly found in Counties Tyrone & Armagh:

Britton has a slightly wider spread:

You may struggle to find church records for someone born in Ireland in the late 1700s. Few records exist, and where they do exist they are not always on-line.

If the family were using the UP graveyard in Paisley that could point to them being Presbyterian or some other Protestant denomination. The majority of Presbyterians lived in Ulster. There weren’t many in the rest of Ireland (though there were some).

Your best bet at the moment is to try and access the Poor Law Records to try and find the parish of origin. If you find that out, plus can confirm the family denomination, I’ll tell you what church records exist in Ireland and where to find them.

Actually I may have been wrong about the records :( they were in the bit of the Library next to the Museum so not sure if that is also closed so best to call them for info, sorry if I confused matters :(

If you Google "Castlehead Parish Church", you will see many pieces about the Church which I understand may have previously been a UP Church before being a Church of Scotland. The graveyard is right next to it and the graves include a few of my ancestors, one being Robert Tannahill the Paisley Poet! Sadly, the Church has closed many years ago and is, I think, being turned into flats :(
