Hello
Can anybody tell me anything about Alexander Campbell 1771-1843. He lived at Mulindry Farm on Islay and was my ancestor. His son was John b. 1797 and then going down the line were a couple of Archibalds b.1830 and b.1865. John was a herdsman from what I can gather, and Alexander seemed to live at the farm for a long time because a lot of his children were born there. I can't find anything about his parents or any siblings. I know my great - grandfather moved off the island and a lot of ancestors went to Canada. I would like to know how long they were on Islay for and where they came from before that. It's difficult because the same forenames keep appearing down the line over generations, so going back I'm never sure if I've got the right Alexander Campbell.
If anyone knows anything about this line of the Campbell family on Islay I'd be pleased to hear about it.

On looking at parish maps, Mulindry (or Mulindra) is fairly central in Kilarrow parish. In the OPRs (Old Parochial Registers) there is birth information from 1763 to 1854, marriage information from 1771 to 1854 and burial information from 1817 to 1831 for Bowmore (or KIlarrow) parish. These are earliest and latest years, it doesn't say how complete or sparse the information is for any given year(s) within these. From 1855 there should be information in the statutory registers of births, marriages and deaths. As you are seeking information from the early end of these dates or before, you may be running out of records to seek.
Other information to consider is MIs (monumental inscriptions). That is dependent on if the headstones of the local cemeteries have been transcribed and put online on websites such as findagrave.

I am a descendant of James Campbell that arrived in Stavanger Norway from Argyllshire in October 1736. Through wideranging DNA-testing, I have been able to ascertain, that both James and Alexander, descend from the same male line, and that they most likely are descendants of Sir James the 5th Baronett of Auchinbreck. Alexander would be my 3 greats grandfathers half second cousin. Alexanders father is Collin, according to the Islay church records, but we then only lack one generation to link James with Collins dad, that according to my research should be half brothers. I hope you are a male only descendant of Alexander. That would be very helpful, but also going through your autosomal Myheritage and Familytreedna hits could be of great help regardless of whether you are male only descendant or not. Most grateful for any info of Alexanders ancestry and descendants.
