Wallace & Kennedy Families.....

Postby Val » Sun Feb 19, 2006 5:40 am

I am looking for information on Thomas Wallace and his wife Mary Aitkin who
had five children: Barbara, Albert (my great grandfather), Henry, Mary and
Helen.Thomas & Mary married on 8 July 1831 at St Cuthbert's Edinburgh.
Also looking for the family of David Kennedy & Janet Burns from Falkirk and Kilsyth. They married 19 Nov 1830 in Falkirk and came to Australia in 1855 with David, John, Janet Burns(my great grandmother), Ann Gordon and James.

I would love to know more about these families, where they lived, their early
families etc.

Also trying to find out about Burnsland and New Zealand both in or near Edinburgh

Hope someone can help.

Hi val and Welcome!

I just did a parent search on the IGI for David Kennedy and Janet Burns and you will find the following children born to them:

DAVID KENNEDY - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Male Christening: 30 OCT 1831 Falkirk, Stirling, Scotland

WILLIAM KENNEDY - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Male Christening: 07 JUL 1833 Falkirk, Stirling, Scotland

JOHN KENNEDY - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Male Christening: 09 NOV 1834 Falkirk, Stirling, Scotland

JOHN KENNEDAY - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Male Christening: 23 DEC 1836 Kilsyth, Stirling, Scotland

JANET KENNEDY - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Female Christening: 27 JAN 1839 Kilsyth, Stirling, Scotland

ANN GORDON LOCKHART KENNEDY - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Female Birth: 17 SEP 1840 Saint Cuthberts, Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland

JAMES KENNEDY - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Male Birth: 24 OCT 1842 Saint Cuthberts, Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland

You can see the migration pattern based on the places of birth for the children. Knowing that both Ann and James were born in Edinburgh either side of the 1841 census year....when that becomes available online you will likely find your family in Edinburgh. It would be safe to bet that you will find them there on the 1851 census too. While these records won't tell you a alot it will show you their address and who their neighbors were and also David's occupation and all their places of birth.

Hope the census records are available soon  !

Best wishes
Jean

Thanks for the prompt reply and now I have to get on to Ancestry.com to look at the 1851 Census. That's if I can find a way to do just that.
At least all your information will be a help.

Hi Val

Sorry to say but you won't find the Scottish census records on Ancestry.com. The years 1861 through 1901 are all available on the pay per view Scotlandspeople website (link button located at the top of the forum page) with the 1851 slated for release soon (we all hope) and the 1841 to follow in another month or so. Fortunately for you Freecen had the records for your locations alread transcribed!!! \:D/ Well done Nelmit!!! (I always forget to check there....must tie a string on my finger  )

Please come back and visit often!

Best wishes

Thanks for that information on Ancestry. I realized as soon as I had sent it that Ancestry doesn't have Scottish Census details.
I too must remember Freecen as a good site.
Cheers
