Hullo again, John

A search of the IGI for LYONs in Loudon, Ayr around the time of Thomas supposed birth gives only female hits. The IGI Batch No is C 116032
It is known that for some parishes, only the female names were indexed.

You will, I think, have to look for Thomas' birth on film at an LDS Family History Centre. I hope there is one near where you live.

Hello John
I recognise the Hepburn link! I think we may have been in touch before on Genes Reunited? In which case you have most of the info I have already on this family.

Thomas Lyon & Agnes Young are my 4th great grandparents. Despite efforts by several Lyon researchers we have not got to the bottom of Thomas...yet! I have not checked the OPRS or any of my Ayrshire lot yet, so there is a possibility he may be in there.

Best wishes
Lesley
Researching:
Midlothian & Fife - Goalen, Lawrie, Ewart, Nimmo, Jamieson, Dick, Ballingall.
Dunbartonshire- Mcnicol, Davy, Guy, McCunn, McKenzie.
Ayrshire- Lyon, Parker, Mitchell, Fraser.
Easter Ross- McCulloch, Smith, Ross, Duff, Rose.

Re Thomas Lyon
CatrionaL-Thank you for prompt reply, yes I did have the info you listed,
if,as you say, it may mean a visit to an LDS centre, then I shall
have to see if that is possible. In the meantime-perhaps some
one else will contact the forum.
Kind regards
John

Hello Leley-Nice to hear from you again,as you will have guessed,I have
taken your suggestion to try TalkingScot.
If,as Catriona has remarked, there were only female 'hits',
then no wonder we have a problem finding Thomas!.Unless
someone else may have tried this route?.Shall now wait to
see what transpires.
Happy hunting

P.S I am presuming these replies wiil be read by you both ?.

Hi John
Was just trying things on the off-chance and just found "our" Thomas on the 1841 census!! Whoopee! There is no doubt its him as the younger kids are still with him! Not only that, its even better, 2 for the price of one! John Parker and Janet (Lyon, Thomas's daughter) are on the facing page with their kids.

Here's Thomas:
  • Alton, Loudon, Ayrshire:
    Thomas Lyon 70
    Mary Lyon 30
    James Lyon 28 ag lab
    Arch Lyon 25 ag lab
    Agnes Lyon 2
    all born in county.
( There are 2 granddaughters who could be this young Agnes - she is either the dau of James Lyon and Jean Brown or the dau. of Andrew Lyon and Mary Parker - both were born around 1838)

best wishes

Good afternon Lesley
Thanks a lot for breaking the 'deadlock'-I seem to recall you mentioned
a while back, that we may get an answer in the 1814c-so it finally paid off!.
I had contacted PFH 'answers' team (attn of Tony Reid or Alan Steward)-
and am still awaiting a reply-no doubt when they do so,they'll tell me to get off my butt and check the census!.

I contacted Claude Wrathall who lives in Washinton,America.(I mentioned
him in one of my messages). The connection was through John Hepburns
second wife Mary Mason-but not a blood relative. He asked for other info-
which I forwarded by 'snail mail',but have not yet rec'd a reply.

Again, many thanks
John

Sorry about that-must have hit the wrong button!.
Re your earlier message, you mention the two grandaughters, I wonder
where you got the info regarding the 1838 date of births?.

James Lyon married Jean Brown 18 July 1846 at Loudon.
Andrew Lyon married Mary Parker 11 Dec 1824 at Loudon,
so they seem more likely to be the parents,do'nt you think?

Hope beginning of message arrived, and again, many thanks
John
