From 1855 onwards scotlandspeople.gov.uk has 14 deaths of a Robert SWAN aged 70 or over. In terms of age a few of these would or could fit an 1802 marriage. No Ann ARKLEs, but I'd be wary of spelling variations, - but again a few Ann* SWANs .................

Hi Davie

Thanks for having a look for me the spelling for Arkle I got from thier marriage records at Edinburgh that is how I got the parishes. It is an unusual name so mabye it is something different as I have had this happen before due to the way the name was pronounced. It can be a problem.

Many Thanks
Heather

Hi Heather,I believe Ann Arkle may turn out to be Ann Arall. There is a birth on SP for 26 May 1786 ,parents Charles Arall and Agnes Heart ,Abbey,Paisley. As a bonus William Arall was born the same day, same parents.Noesn't seem to go with the names for Ann's children but it was the closest I could find for her birth.

Hi Heather

Thanks for the info if that is her then she married at age 16 it's a pity thay the OPR's don't give you more info. She had a son William so she could have named him after her twin. I got my info about the children from LDS and it says that she was born Wiston Glasgow. I'll will have to check up on the parishes and see where abouts they are.

Many Thanks for all of your help.
Heather

I would take Wiston, Glasgow to mean Wiston, Lanarkshire. Wiston is in South Lanarkshire, well south of Glasgow (about 30 miles down the M74 motorway and across a bit). Have a look at the parish map on the Lanarkshire Family History Society's website, or for a current map, enter Wiston on www.streetmap.co.uk website.

All the best,

Andrew Paterson
