Thanks for prompt reply Jean I know his name was Daniel Percy says on death cert he was 44 and that was on Jan 16th 1911 so he must have been born1867/68 unless birth cert copy I got online from Scotish People is wrong one cos this says born 1888 so Ive got truly mixed up and as these two don't match somewhere along the line I've got one wrong man

It's the case of the tricky surname spelling.
Once I found his parents names from his death and also that he had been married twice I search for his first marriage to find out where he might have been from. That was easy enough to locate and like you say still indicated a birth year of about 1867....sooooo......then you go to plan B and use wildcards to help pick up all the possible tricky spellings of PERCY. In your case....I searched by DAN* P*Y........where the asterisk stands in for any letters or no letters. I narrowed the search to Roxburgh and 1865-1870....there is only one.....see if you can find it using those wildcard spellings I just gave you...
