AITKEN

Post by dano » Thu Oct 05, 2006 12:32 pm

Not reallly a specific question, but does anyone have a question or information on the AITKEN family from (mainly) Stirlingshire?

John Aitken married Mary Marshall (1767 Slamannan) - son
John Aitken married Agnes Waddell (1801 Slamannan) - son
Thomas Aitken married Jean Dunlop (1836 Polmont) - son
Henry Aitken married Mary Wilson (1873 Larbert) - son
Henry Aitken married Elizabeth Jane Connell (1905 Cambuskenneth)

I have much more to offer and need much more. Can anyone relate?

Hi Pinkshoes,

I have James & Jean Taylor on my data but without knowing James' parents, I cant see a link. The 1841 census lists both James & Jean as aged 40. I have 6 children for the couple from the census.

Of those children I have the following marriages
John b 1822 married Christina Forrester
Peter b abt 1823 married Frances Hodge 1845 but 1851 census has him married to Marion
James b 1828 married Helen Gilchrist 1852.

I have the death certificates for John & James if you would like copies send me your e-mail in a PM. I have extened familes for those sons I have mentioned.

I hope this is helpfull

Hi Dano,

I have a Mary Aitkin/Aitken in my family. She married Thomas, my gg grandfather in 1831 at St.Cuthbert's Edinburgh.
I'm told her father was Samuel Aitkin but have no idea where he came from.
I'm at a brick wall on the Aitkins so hope you can help.

Cheers from Australia
Val

Hi Val,

Judging by the marriage date your gg grandfather was Thomas Wallace?

The LDS gives Samuel as Mary's father but there is no birth of a Mary recorded to a Samuel on the GRO site. I would suggest you try to find her death certificate to confirm the names of her parents. I could only find 2 children Barbara & Albert on the GRO, & suspected there were more. I tracked the family through the 1851 census & am happy to send this certificate to you if you send me a PM with your e-mail address.

It states Mary was 42 & born in Edinburgh Thomas was 41. Children in case you don't have them all are
Barbara 18
Albert 16
Henry 14
Ann 12
Susan 10
Helen 8

There is no connection to my Aitkens

Regards
