Is anyone else having problems downloading census images at scotlands people? I selected an image to download, ok'd the 5 credits, but no image appeared. Just a load of buttons which don't respond to clicking and the words "Activex viewer license. Activex viewer."
I'll away and try something else, but they have deducted my credits.

Hi Annpa,
One possible cause could be ActiveX not working properly on your PC. My choice is always to select "direct download" as the image viewer in "my details" on ScotlandsPeople. I find this to be the most reliable method.
All the best,

Thankyou Andrew, direct Download works. though I have been using activex for years with no problems. Don't know why it has started playing up.
cheers

Hi Annpa,
One possibility is a Windows update has stopped ActiveX working properly on your PC.
All the best,

I think Andrew is correct in saying that it might be a Windows update that has changed something and is interfering with your Activix. I get messages about that occasionally--I have Windows Vista. I switched to the direct downloads a while back and haven't had any problems since. It's also faster than the other methods.
