On my list of Pipe Majors of the 9th Battalion Highland Light Infantry I have the following names:
- Baillie, Thomas 1908-1917
- MacDiarmid, Alexander B. WW1
- MacColl, James Malcolm WW1 (born 1892, died 1977 Glasgow)
- Swanson, John till 1934
- MacLeod, Ian WW2

Are individual soldiers details mentioned in the books you have? I have a great uncle who 'died from his injuries' in France in 1915 while a member of the 9th HLI.

It's unlikely to mention individual private soldiers unless they did something spectacular, but at least you can find out what they were up to on a particular day.
