Could this be it? From the names given it would appear to be the same one you found Sally, but the 1924 change of name indicated here makes it fit better with the marriage entry
There is a picture of it too, on the web site

From the data at the plimsoll site, it appears the Yewglen's official number was 137788.
I believe you need the official number when searching for crewlists (see http://www.crewlist.org.uk/ )
The "Shipping Intelligence" in the Scotsman archives mentions Yewglen from 1925 - 1939 , however the master's name doesn't seem to be mentioned in this time period. :(

I'd go for 'Yewglen' too - not quite sure what it means but there is a mention of J. Stewart shipping in 1924. Did he buy it then?

You might get some records from the archives http://www.gla.ac.uk/media/media_60315_en.pdf
Page 11 shows records for John Stewart shipbuilder/owner.

Hi,

Thanks for that. Will have a look at the archives at Glasgow Uni, this week. He's certainly difficult to find, I know that!
Apparently, in 1960 he was stated as being an electrical goods managing director in Glasgow on his son's marriage cert, but by 1987 on his death cert. he reverted back to a master mariner.

Regards,

Daryl

Hi Daryl,

My dad was a vocalist for most of his life but a few years before he took ill he worked as a telephone operator. When I registered his death I asked the registrar if I could put vocalist as his occupation because that, in my mind, is what he was.

She told me I could put anything I wanted for his occupation - so vocalist it was.

Annette

Hello Daryl,

There is a mention of the Yewglen in the Times dated 9 July 1931

YEWGLEN:- Yarmouth, Norfolk. July 8 - Steamer Yewglen of Glasgow, bound Blyth, in ballast, while leaving harbour this afternoon struck and damaged South Pier.
