Jim,

Not sure if you already have this information:
John MCCREADIE was born on 29 Nov 1806 in Ballantrae, Ayrshire, Scotland. He died in 1892. John married Isabella WELSH on 18 Nov 1842 in Girvan, Ayrshire, Scotland.
They had the following children.
Anthony MCCREADIE was born on 7 Oct 1845 in Ballantrae, Ayrshire, Scotland. He died in 1909 in Kilmarnock, Ayrshire, Scotland.

John MCCREADIE was born on 13 Jul 1848. He died in 1879 in Ayr Harbour, Scotland.

Mary Feguson MCCREADIE was born in 1850 in Ballantrae, Ayrshire, Scotland. She died in 1897.

Alexander MCCREADIE was born on 9 Apr 1854 in Ballantrae, Ayrshire, Scotland. He died in 1873 in Ballantrae, Ayrshire, Scotland.

William MCCREADIE was born on 24 Jul 1857 in Ballantrae, Ayrshire, Scotland. He died in 1875 in Ballantrae, Ayrshire, Scotland.

Both the Death and RCE does not give any clues except its his father that registers his death so you would have expected him to have taken him back to Ballantrae. Where was his family in 1881 census?

Thanks for that info Alcluith;

The information that continues to elude me is John's (d. 02 Aug 1879, offshore Ayr Harbour) date and place of burial. Having personally checked at Girvan Registry Office, I know he was NOT buried in Ballantrae [Parish of birth] during August 1879. Despite knowing his precise date of death, the cost of searching Ayr cemeteries burial records is prohibitive.

So to anyone, who holds Ayr Cemetries burials on CD, I would be extremely grateful for any data.

Jim

Did you find his brothers in the Alexander and William or other McCreadie burials in Ballantrae records?

Maybe the family lair was elsewhere!
