Hi,
Not been on for a while so a big hello xxx
I was told that, during the war, Lennox Castle ( a psychiatric hospital) was also used as a Maternity unit!. I have tried Googling but can't find anything other than its use as a Psychiatric unit and its origins??? Does anybody know anything about it, or have tips where I could look. It would have been around 1944.
Thanks in advance

Hi Nica,
There are several sites which refer to this. Try these (the relevant paragraphs are further down the pages)...

Here's another page of basic information and photographs.

It's sad to see such lovely buildings get into such a terrible state.

If you contact the archives they should hopefully be able to send you your mum's record.

Re: Lennox Castle
Hi, I worked there from 1882-1991 or therabouts when it was a large 'Victorian-style' institution for people with learning disablilities or mental handicap as it was called then. 1500 residents when I started.
Heron and Murray in Galloway, Smith and Mill in Aberdeen and Galloway, Templeton and Elliot in Lanarkshire and Dumfriesshire, Watson and Douglas in Dumfriesshire, Scott and Maxwell in Kirkcudbrightshire.
