POORHOUSE

Post by steiner » Sun Mar 08, 2009 11:13 am

Found a record in Glasgow for a relative born 1831 in Neilston , Renfrewshire who was married and spent all her married life in and around Glasgow until her death in the 1890's

She received poor law relief and in the entry she appears to have been in a Poorhouse in Tynemouth NE England before being returned to Govan, Glasgow
As far as I know she never had any connection with Tyneham - can anyone explain why she was there? Records at Tynemouth dont exist

thanks for any suggestions

Hi Steiner
I take it you have seen the original poor relief application? Just asking incase you have read somone else's transcription, which may include errors. Is the writing very clear? Does it actually state "England"? Do you know where her parents were from?

Tyneham seems to be in Dorset. Did you mean Tynemouth, east of Newcastle?

Sorry to be asking what seems like the blinking obvious!

Best wishes
Lesley

hi Lesley

Definately Tynemouth near Newcastle.
Both her parents were from Renfrewshire.

Hi steiner,
What dates are we talking about? Is there a chance she might be found in a census in England, or is she in Scotland for all of the census years?

Regards,
Sarah
